Comprehensive expansion of Tele Columbus’ fibre network in Schwerin
- Gigabit internet for 25,000 homes through DOCSIS 3.1 connections
- New optical fibre line to link up both central network hubs
- Availability in first set of residential areas in just a few months’ time
Berlin, 13 May 2022. The underground construction work began this week in Schwerin, the capital of the federal state of Mecklenburg – West Pomerania, for the large-scale expansion of Tele Columbus’ local fibre network. The expanded network will provide 25,000 homes with new gigabit internet. The work is set to be fully completed by midway through 2023, but the first homes will be able to utilise the new connections in just a couple of months’ time.
High-speed internet at up to 1,000 Mb/s is coming to Schwerin through the Tele Columbus network and the company’s PŸUR brand. The expansion work, which is now well underway, will improve the reliability of internet connections across all 25,000 newly connected homes in Schwerin and ensure that households can surf the internet with high levels of stability and at guaranteed speeds. The two local headends – the central network hubs in Schwerin – will be connected up in the coming months with a new fibre-optic line and integrated into the north-eastern Germany optical fibre ring from Tele Columbus with enhanced capacity. The approximately ten-kilometre-long new line will also supply other network clusters with fibre-optic connections.
